UAA Yogyakarta and UKM Bangi Sign MoU to Create a World Class University

Faculty of Computer and Engineering — Alma Ata University (UAA) Yogyakarta and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) from Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia, have established a strong collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, March 5 2024. This step marks a commitment UAA is a World Class University (WCU) that contributes positively to society.

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the Chancellor of UAA, Prof. Dr. H Hamam Hadi, MS, ScD, SpGK, and Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Prof Dato’ Gs Ts DR Moch Ekhwan bin Hj Toriman.

Prof. Hamam Hadi explained that this collaboration provides an opportunity for all University faculties in Jogja to develop academics and research, and hopes that the results will be of broad benefit to society. Collaboration between UAA and UKM has started in the last year through joint research and publication activities, and with the signing of this MoU, it is hoped that this collaboration between nations will become more productive.

Furthermore, Prof. Hamam explained that UAA’s choice to partner with UKM was based on UKM’s reputation as one of the leading public universities in Malaysia. UKM is ranked 159th in the QS World University Rankings 2024, ranked 28th in the QS World University Ranking Asia, and is among the top five best universities in Malaysia.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was founded in 1970 with the aim of providing higher education for Malays. Over time, UKM has been awarded as a “Research University of Malaysia” by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2006, as well as winning the Prime Minister’s Quality Award, demonstrating its commitment to being at the forefront of education and management.

The signing of the MoU between UAA and UKM is part of UAA’s efforts to become a World Class University (WCU), having previously collaborated with universities in the United States, Taiwan, the Philippines and Thailand. This time, UAA collaborated with several top universities in Malaysia, including UKM, as a strategic step in achieving this goal.

UAA Yogyakarta, located in the city of Jogja, has become one of the leading educational centers in Indonesia. With the signing of this MoU, UAA further strengthens its position as one of the leading universities in the region.
